Final Newsletter - June 05
June 15, 2005 Region X Newsletter – Wrap-up for the year!
The Region X meeting was held in “Viva Las Vegas!” during the 100th year celebration of the City of Las Vegas. A total of 63 people attended some partial, and some for the Nevada elections Sat. evening. We had Friday night hospitality all weekend and the Palace Station Hotel Casino never closed. The Saturday breakfast and business meeting was conducted in an orderly manner even though stuffed “Riggs’ Pigs!” kept being presented to me during the festivities. We never need to use the Sgt-At-Arms. All states were represented and others came from as far away as Alaska and New York.
Outgoing UT President Art Esenberg #26704 brought incoming UT Pres. Vic Wager #41590; CA incoming Pres. Greg Conrad #48695 was with his wife, COB Denise Lyons-Conrad #53219 and someone called “Wanda?” Hawaii was represented by Sen. Tom Sutherland; AZ President Jim Daugherty #51172 brought all of AZ’s Senate, but no incoming pres. had been elected yet. Outgoing Nevada President Steve Balint #43364 was there with his BOD and incoming President Christopher Eric Mumm #28073.
Past USJCI Senate Presidents Larry Sheeler #16232 and James Ashley #23854 were present as was Past Canada Jaycee President Russ Cooper #4638 & former 1st Lady Marilyn Krekorian Cooper.

At the Region X meeting I gave Marty Calabro #26870 & Lowell Vahl #40315 (Lowell is Past Pres. of the NB JCI Senate and an AZ Senator) Outstanding Regional Chairman Awards for their work on the Regional meeting and Lowell’s work as creator of Region X web site for me. Thank you guys again, I could not have done it without you!!
President Joe A. and 1st Lady Margaret were given a lovely cornucopia pitcher for their wonderful “Cultivating Friendship’s” during the year and some very nice pigs for their farm. NV President Steve Balint #43364 gave them some wine from Nevada’s Pahrump wine valley at the entrance to “Death Valley!” Strange place to grow wine? It is very good wine though.
Each state president present was awarded a “Service to Humanity – RTF’ plaque with all of their names on them as a thank you from Region X and me.
There will be a large crowed of Region X Senators in New York from our respective states. Region X’s States Party Chairman & UT President Art Esenberg #26704 has a great X party booth planned. Do not forget to bring baseball clothing representing the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angel’s Anaheim, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics. You can just stick to the teams that came from New York also, or match you favorite West Coast Minor League team! I have matching hat and shirt for the San Francisco Giants and am looking forward to seeing what all of you bring to participate with. Remember, this is a contest against other regions and Art plans on winning for Region X. Hot dogs and peanuts and such will be served.
Region x had an outstanding year full of Senate and Jaycee activities. Pres. Lon Fox visited NV and AZ Jaycees and Senates during our year, some of us went to visit the Baja Mexico Jaycees, Dolphin Corps and Senate in Ensenada. We all attended numerous meetings and in trying to cultivate friendships, chased that little black cloud away from Hurricane Joe.
Thank you all for the hard work, ongoing dedication and service to the Senate movement in Region X, the USJCI Senate and JCI World. Thank you AZ, NV, the Greater Las Vegas Jaycees and all who volunteered to help at the Region X meeting and around the Region during the 2004-05 year! We grew in numbers and are a plus in membership. We lost some great Senators and they are in our prayers, and we welcomed some new Senators into fold. What a year with new friendships gained by all of us.
“Happy Trail’s to you!” Thank you for the memories, the stuffed pigs and piggy banks at the Region X meeting! “Riggs’ Pigs!” did rule in fun and friendship.
Aloha, Adios, Viva Region X,
The Sunshine Region of the far West.

Mentors Article - June 05
Region X JCI Senators, this year of the "Sunshine Region w/Happy Trail's to you!" will be at an end at our year end meeting in New York. We all have "Cultivated" new and old friendships in our states and outside our regions. Some of us made new friends in Mexico and Canada also. For me this has been a wonderful year and I thank AZ, CA, HI, NV and UT for showing me great hospitality and being so kind to the other national officers who have made it to their states.
ARIZONA: They put on some wonderful programs and RTF to their Jaycees at each Jaycee BOD meeting. Pres. Jim Daugherty #51172 thru his TEAM of experts such as, Tom Martinez #21801, Lowell Vahl #40315, RTF Ch Ernie Weirich #12557, Jim Hampshire #38626, Pat #45893 & Bob Holbert #27166, Art #27322 & Anne P. Shane #54445, and others helping him has a successful year. Their great Christmas program was very enjoyable and made it special for all there.
CALIFORNIA: Pres. Vince Salinas Jr. 58891 and his group have been RTF's to the Jaycees all year and doing a good job. With the help of Denise #53219 Lyons-Conrad, Greg Conrad #48695, they put on a great Crab Feed with the Vallejo Jaycees and then in May had the 40th Ann. celebration of the CA JCI Senate. This was a wonderful program and I really enjoyed seeing the sights of the LA area again and then the special Saturday nigh 40th program.
HAWAII: Pres. Wes Miyashiro #47042, Dennis K. K. Ching #27129, Fay Nakashima #57490, Big Al Lewis #56159 put on a fantastic "JCI Senate/Old Timers Recognition program and Pro Bowl" event. They were very thoughtful and gave me some nice gifts and I also got to meet an old friend from when I was NV Jaycee President (Riggs' Pigs), Jim Varner #20487. They have spent the year RTF with the Hawaii Jaycees and participated at the Jaycees BOD meetings and events.
NEVADA: Pres. Steve Balint #43364 has been gathering lost members and building the NV Senate. The NV Day celebration was great this year as usual and Charlie #38309 & Arlene #45923 Keller get a well deserved "Thank You!" Chris E. Mumm #28073 was elected the new president at the NV BOD's meeting the weekend of the Region X meeting.
UTAH: Pres. Art Esenberg #26704, with the help of Vic Wager #41590 and crew had a great year. The Ut's put on their "1st Annual Golf BBQ Old Timers" weekend in St. George, UT, had a summer get other and their year end meeting. At the UT JCI Senate Recognition dinner I was honored for a second year in a row to swear in their officers. Vic is the new president. Art is also the Reg. X "States Party Chairman" and is planning and outstanding booth in New York. Stop by and have something to eat and try and win a prize.
The Region X meeting in Las Vegas was a great success with over 60 participants! They came from all of our region's states and Alaska, MO, NC, FL and many other states. It was wonderful to see old friends and meet new ones. Hospitality was provided in a town renowned for it: "Viva Las Vegas!" Pres. Joe A. #27511 and 1st Lady Margaret #48490 had a great time as did AVP Ed Hart #28991 and Boni #59553. Sec. Calvin Baerveldt #36419, Tres. Pat Hoelker #45893, Amb. Art #27322 & PNVP Anne P, Shane #54445, & LC Steve Sutherland #27073 were just some of the national officers who were able to attend. Chairman Marty Calabro #26870 was as happy as I was to see so many people.
Art Esenberg #26704 was elected the 2005-06 NVP and this will be reaffirmed in New York elections and convention. Congrats Art.
Thank you for a wonderful year! Aloha, and see you in the coming new year.

Senate Scene Article - May 05
Time fly’s when you are “Cultivating Friendships” in the USJCI Senate thru Region X. A special thank you goes out to each state Senate thru their President’s from me for the great times this year. Thank you Arizona Jim Daugherty #51172; California Vince Salinas, Jr. #58891; Hawaii Wesley Miyashiro #47042; Nevada Steve Balint #43364; and Utah Art Esenberg #26704. It has been great representing you as
NVP. You all also have been at the forefront of RTF and helping their Jaycees. You are the greatest “Sunshine Region” of the old southwest and stand tall in the saddle because you have earned the Nation’s respect.
The Region will be able to move forward at a fast clip in June with the election of the Ute Art Esenberg #2674 at our Region meeting April 29-30, May 1, 05 in “Viva Las Vegas.” It was a great meeting with Pres. Joe A. #27511, AVP Ed #28991 and Sec. Calvin #36419 and Treas. Pat #45893 in attendance. UT has an elected
BOD, headed by Pres.Vic Wager #41590 whom I was privileged to swear in Salt Lake City at the “Old Timers Recognition Dinner.” Nevada held their meeting and elections April 30th in the evening in Las Vegas and Dr. Christopher Eric Mumm #28073 of Sparks was elected. Chris is the 1985 Past State President of the NV Jaycees.
Both CA and HI will be holding their elections in late May and should turn out some outstanding President like AZ will.
Utah was privileged to have two winners in the USJCI Senate’s Foundation $1,000 Scholarship program: Jacob J. Hanson and Melissa
Nuntapreda. Our Region has had winners for at least three years in a row.
So far I have been able to visit four of my states for weekends or more, Hawaii being 2,500 miles or more away for the Pro Bowl weekend. Many of us even made it to a great meeting in Mexico with
Amb. Art Shane and CA Senate Pres. Vince Salinas, Jr. #58891 with his group. I will also be at the CA 40th Ann. Celebration with incoming NVP Art Esenberg #26704.
I am looking forward to the National Convention because of seeing all of you and Region X wants to see you all at our great “States Party” booth. Don’t forget to look for information on our web site, and an added surprise will be the new NV Senate Web Site.
It has been humbling serving Region X and with the USJCI Senate Executive Committee.
Sincerely, “Happy Trails To You!”

Senate Scene Article - April

As Past Region X NVP Herb Pike #42733 would say for April in our Region, XCITEMENT XUDES from all the states. The CA JCI Senate had a get together March 18, 05 for Senators of the Region before the Annual Crab Feed hosted by the Vallejo Jaycees. That same Friday night I was getting ready for the Utah JCI Senates “2005 Annual Lifetime Achievement Awards Banquet” in Salt Lake City, UT. The UT JCI Senate also had the installation of officers.
That Saturday night former Utah Jaycee Tom Barberi, “Utah’s Voice of Reason” was roasted and given a sound sending off for an “Exhausted Rooster!” Tom has been on the radio keeping the politicos of UT honest for over 16 yrs. Pres. Art Esenberg #26704 had “Old Timer” Bennie L. Williams serve as Toastmaster. I was honored to swear in President Vic Wager #41590 and his
BOD. He and Art were given little sculpted pigs from “Riggs Piglets” NV ranch.
The AZ JCI Senate will be holding their BOD meeting and elections May 21 at the Holiday Inn Express. Same meeting place in Phoenix as the Christmas celebration.
The Nevada JCI Senate per President Steve Balint #43364 on Sat night of the Region X meeting at the Palace Station Hotel Casino April 30th, 3rd floor Hospitality Suites. Steve also notes in his great newsletter that the Greater Las Vegas Jaycees submitted a scholarship applicant thru the NV Senate.
The Hawaii JCI Senate/Old Timers are planning their year end meeting in May in conjunction with the HI Jaycees per Pres. Wes Miyashiro #47072.
The CA JCI Senate is planning a gala event for their 40th Ann. Celebration May 12-15 in Los Angeles, CA. This is also a quarterly meeting of the CA Jaycees per CA JCI Senate Pres. Vince Salinas, Jr. #58891, 40th CA JCI Senate President.
On April 29, 30 – May 7, 2005, Region X will be holding its annual meeting and election or the 2005-06 Regional
NVP. So far, our outstanding candidate for the position is the Ute’s hard working Art Esenberg #26704, Pres. of the UT Senate. Please get your registrations in ASAP. Come see the showgirls, “Flamingos”, and piglets in Las Vegas, “Viva Las Vegas!”
Happy Trails to you!

Region X JCI Senate News for Feb. & March 2005
Region X was well represented by its states at the USJCI Senate Winter Board meeting in Texas: AZ, UT, CA and NV were present.
CONGRATULATIONS Region X:
The NV JCI Senate received a RTF award of the quarter for NV VP Rey S.
Faustino, Sr. #44855 for his hard work with the Greater Las Vegas Jaycees and International visits to Hong Kong Jaycees; Japan Jaycees to see his GLVJaycee son and the Philippines Jaycees. NV’s President Steve Balint #43364 received a State RTF award also for the Fall Quarter which I presented at the Nevada Day weekend.
For the previous quarter, AZ received the RTF awards for their State Chairman Ernie Weirich #12557 and President Jim Daugherty #51172 (Hurricane Ivan’s Quarter).
President Wes Miyashiro #47042 was also awarded an RTF award for the Winter Quarter at the Hawaii JCI Senate Pre Tailgate party on Feb 13, 05 in Hawaii by me and President Joe A. Souza #43364. The large crowd of Hawaii Old Timers and Senators and guests congratulated Pres. Wes Miyashiro #47042 for a job well done.
AS NVP, I am proud of the states, their presidents and officers for supporting the Jaycee movement with “Return the Favor” Programs during the last three quarters of the 2004-05 Senate year.
Region X’s RTF Chairman Chris Mumm #28073 is as happy as I am at the great things the Senator’s in Region X are doing for “Return the Favor” with the Jaycees and have seen some of the charged up Jaycees.
Some of the Greater Las Vegas Jaycees will be helping all of us at the Region X meeting as RTF Staff in “Return the Favor” to the Region.
Each state in the Region has been working very hard to build membership and retain those Senators and Old Timers who have been the backbone of Jaycees and the Senate over the years. In 1929, after the Stock Market crash, the Jaycees had to be rebuilt and many an “Old Timer” stepped in to lend a hand. Then the “Greatest Generation” did the same after WWII. This is one of those times again where “Old Timers and Senators” can continue the tradition. I have discussed ways to save the Jaycees with a very experienced Nevada Senator, Gregory Davis #291, former president of the Boulder City Jaycees and Extension Chairman of the Henderson Jaycees (NV) in the 1950’s. He has some great ideas and has also filled me in on some great Nevada history.
On January 27-30 the CA JCI Senate held their Winter Social in Monterey, CA with the Jaycees. This was the last step before the 40th Anniversary meeting to be held in May. President Vince Salinas, Jr. #58891 is the 40th President and host of the festivities to come.
On March 19th the CA JCI Senators wit the Vallejo Jaycees will also hold the Annual Crab Feed in Vallejo, CA. Information is on the Region X JCI Senate web site.
The Hawaii JCI Senate/Old Timers Recognition Ceremony put on a fantastic program for their “26th Annual Hawaii Jaycee Senate/Old-Timers Recognition Banquet” and Pro Bowl Tail Gate party. All 5 states in Region X were represented and many from around the other Regions also attended.
We were hosted to the early arrival dinner at The Willows restaurant on the 10th. Then on Feb. 11th, the wonderful Old Timers Recognition Banquet at Japanese Cultural Center, Manoa Ballroom of Hawaii was held. President Joe A. Souza #43364 and me were recognized and given some wonderful and very funny gifts. Master of Ceremonies Kalene S. Sakamoto, a new JCI Senator #65425 led the program with Hawaii Jaycees President Wesley Kam #64398 starting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Ralph Fukumitsu the “Old Timer/Rooster” who was honored as the “Outstanding Old Timer of the Year,” was a great Jaycee in his day and provided leadership to other organizations when he aged out of Jaycees. He was also made JCI Senator #65411 to top off the honor at age 84.
Additionally, John Nishihara was made JCI Senator # 65321 as part of the special ceremony and another new Senator David McKenna #65898 was in attendance.
On the12th, after the Bikini watching we held a “Wake” for Hawaii Dir. Dave Henry Sarandria #29454 (and HI Dir. Big Al Lewis #56195), we went to the Mongoose Corps100 Buffet Chinese Dinner where all Senators were welcomed by Corps Commander Ronald “Fats” Watarida #25823 and HI COB Dennis K. K. Ching #27129, past Corps Commander. Many were inducted into the Corps amid terrible faces at what they drank. I thought it tasted good last year and this, but then what do I know, I very seldom drink anything. Look at their faces on the web site under pictures in Hawaii.
On the 13th we all went to the Aloha Stadium Tailgate Party and game at the request of Old Timer David Dang. The Pre Game Show and Half Time were great. It was very hot where I sat and I had to get out of the sun. The game itself was interesting in that none of the players wanted to get hurt so it was a soft game. At the tailgate, we also had a TV on the game.
Between all these great activities, everyone got to see some of the wonderful sights of Hawaii thanks to President Wesley Miyashiro #47042 and his great group. Senators Tom Sutherland #25923 and NVP Asst. Wendell Hosea #31227 gave me rides around the island and HI Sec. Senator Faye Nakashima #57490 got us some great stick on “Aloha” name tags for the Region X meeting. Former Region X NVP Kathryn Chung #56255 has provided the Region also with some nice Hawaii key chains for our meeting and the year end convention.
In attendance also were the following past Region X National Vice Presidents; Tom Woo #6946, Ben Makaea #15931, Kathryn Chung #56255, Bob Holbert #27166, Charlie Keller #38309, and Joe A. Souza #27511.
On Valentines Day I was shown some of the finer points of surfing by bikini clad ladies on Waikiki Beach. The section of beach by “Duke’s” statue had perfect weather, sand, and surfing just before I flew home. A hui hou (until we meet again)...
The Utah JCI Senate will have their “Annual JCI Senate and Old Timers Banquet” in Salt Lake City, UT on March 19. I will have the privilege of swearing in their new Board of Directors. Past Region NVP’s Art and Anne Shane have also said they will try to be there for the event.
President Art Esenberg #26704 is also been building his membership back up for this very event.
Art is also in charge of Region X’s “States Party” booth and needs you all to pitch in and have your materials ready for NY. Contact Art right away.
Nevada’s President Steve Balint #43364 has been getting his membership list in order and catching up with many an Old Timer. He is planning his elections and installation on Saturday night during the Region X meeting. Also his next newsletter is ready to go and dues are in.
The Region X JCI Senate meeting will be held at the Palace Station Hotel Casino April 29, 30 and May 1, 2005 in Las Vegas, NV. You can go to our web site or the USJCI Senate’s and download the registration form and locate other information.
http://www.region-x-jci-senate.org/ Senators may also contact Chairman Marty Calabro #26870. “Remember what happens in Las Vegas stays in Vegas!”
Happy Trails to you!

REGION X VICE PRESIDENT
John Riggs #24081
Your Region X NVP and collective State Presidents wish everyone a Happy New Year! We hope your holiday season was great and we all gave thanks for what we have and our nation’s freedom. Senators in our Region have Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen in harms way and we pray for all of them. All Region X states had their dues in on time again. We brought back some lost Senators and grew in renewals of current and 1st time Senators. The Region is proud of AZ also for being awarded The Outstanding RTF State Chair. for AZ’s Ernie Weirich for the last quarter and the Outstanding RTF State President Jim Daugherty. Keep up the good work.
I was privileged December 10th thru 12th to be a guest of the AZ JCI Senate in Phoenix, my second official visit to AZ this year and both have been enjoyable. The AZ JCI Senate hosted President Joe A. and 1st Lady Margaret Souza as well as Administration VP Ed and wife Boni Hart. As always, thanks to our great Holiday Inn Express Hotel hosts, Pat and Bob
Holbert. They always have the event at this hotel, we were treated like “Royalty.”You can go to the Region X web site to the Hawaii page and get all the information on HIJCI Senate Old-Timers event in February 2005. It has been listed in the E-News and MENTORS. The Keller’s hosted another great Nevada Day in Carson City and Region X had a great turn out. Additionally, in Carson City on NV Day, Carson Jaycee Lori Urbani was made a JCI Senator! HI and CA have had outstanding BOD’s meetings. Also, the majority of our states have been training Jaycees at the BOD’s meetings.
Utah had an outstanding 1st Annual BBQ/Golf Outing in September and is already working towards next year’s event. Pres. Art Esenberg is also Region X's State's Party Chairman and will be advising us all soon of the sports theme for NY. Remember, we need to plan for and have tables at the States Party and maybe win something? We try harder in the Senate’s Sunny West.
Long time Nevada JCI Senator Ronald K. Snider was made USJCC Ambassador #3989 by USJCC Pres. and JCI Senator Lon Fox on Dec. 15, 2004.
Again the Region X Senate asks you to send in your Presidential Raffle tickets. These are the foundation for the Senate budget and the Senate was damaged when it had to cancel the LA Region X is a shinning star over the “Great West and Pacific Ocean.” See you in San Antonio, TX at the BOD meeting in Jan. 05; the "Hawaii Senate/Old Timers Pro Bowl" event in Feb.
05; and the CA "Crab Feed" in March 05; and the Region X annual meeting and elections in April and May.
Our year is moving along very fast, and I hope all of you are really enjoying the friendships, hospitality, and making new
memories to cherish in the future. "Cultivate Friendships," and "HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU,"

Mentor's Article - December
2004
Howdy to all from the sunny West, Region X! We have had several
state meetings and different party weekends since September 2004. The AZ, CA and HI JCI Senates
have participated in state BOD meetings with their Jaycees and NV’s Jaycee chapters have put on some
great projects. UT had their fabulous Golf/BBQ outing in St George where Pres Art Esenberg #26704 made sure
Pres Joe A Souza #27511 and I learned the finer points of birdie’s and squirrel’s in relation to the golf
course?!
The Nevada Day party-BBQ weekend for NV’s admission day program on Oct 29-31, 04 went
great. Many JCI Senators joined Pres Steve Balint, myself; JCI Senator’s Charlie and Arlene Keller and Carson
JC Pres Wendy Keller-Smith congratulate brand new JCI Senator Lori Urbani into the fold on NV Day.
CA had their Nov 5-7 meeting in Long Beach. Pres Vince Salinas, Jr. #58891 hosted the Mexico JCI
Senators as honored guests. This was an exciting weekend and thank you! for their gracious hosting of us
in Mexico at their Area 1 meeting. The Jaycee International World Congress was held in Fukuoka,
Japan Nov 21-26, 04 and Region X was well represented by our own members with the leadership of Pres
Joe A and Chief of Staff Dougie Meyers #21511.
Region X had one of its past NVP’s, Ray Battaglini #8261 honored by the Corvette Hall of Fame. He was
inducted into it in September for his past accomplishments. Ray is also Past US JCI Senate
Tres, Chaplain and he is
past President of the Nevada Jaycees in the early 1970’s. He also served as the 20th President of the New Mexico
JCI Senate.
December 11, 04 AZ had their Christmas social in Tempe with Pres Jim Daugherty #51172 hosting. It was
a lot of fun and many old timer JCI Senators got to socialize during the holiday festivities.
I am looking forward to seeing all of you again at our Jan 21-23, 2005, US JCI Senate winter BOD meeting in
San Antonio, TX. This should be a great meeting and we can make up for our lost time in LA.
The Hawaii JCI Senate Pro Bowl/Old Timers meeting in Honolulu, Oahu is Feb 11-13, 2005. This is a several day
event with an annual awards dinner, reception of mainlander’s dinner and a tailgate party at the Pro Bowl!
In March 2005 the CA JCI Senate will participate at the Vallejo JC’s annual Crab Feed. If you love crab, it is a must
attend event.
Check out Region X’s Web Site: http://www.region-x-jci-senate.org/ We have great content, pictures and state

X Dec. 2004:
Arizona JCI Senates' Christmas Party
Success:
I was
privileged on the weekend of December 10 thru 12 of being a guest of the
AZ JCI Senate in Phoenix. This was my second visit to AZ this year and
both have been enjoyable. Last trip was a stop over with the Shane's on
my way to see the Mexico JCI Senate! "Viva" Art was my guide. This trip,
I was able to meet with all of you for "Holiday Cheer" and be with your
other VIPs: President Joe A. and Margaret Souza and AVP Ed and Boni Hart.
The Region is proud of AZ also for being
awarded The Outstanding RTF State for the last quarter and Outstanding RTF
State President. Keep up the good work.
UTAH JCI Senate had Outstanding
Golf Outing:
Utah had an outstanding 1st Annual BBQ/Golf Outing
in September and are already working towards next years event. Pres. Art
Esenberg is also Region X's State's Party Chairman and will be advising us
all soon of the theme for NY. Remember, we need to plan for and have
tables at the States Party and maybe win the grand prize this year for
best design.
NEVADA Day Celebration:
I attended Nevada's NV Day Celebration with some AZ Senators and greeted
CA, CO, Senators and Jaycees. This was a great event put on by the
Keller's as usual and we all really enjoyed the great weather.
Initiation Fees For Junior Chamber
International Senatorships To Increase:
Junior Chamber International has raised their portion of the required
fees to present a Junior Chamber International Senatorship to a deserving
Jaycee. Effective January 1st, 2005, the Junior Chamber International
portion will increase by $50. At this time, the fees required by the
United States JCI Senate will not increase.
For more information on how to submit a
member for a Senatorship, please ask the advice of your local Chapter
President, your state officers or State Senate. They can direct you to
where the USJCC have a down loadable form.
JCI 60th Anniversary Message from
JCI:
"Six decades have passed since a group of
eager young leaders gathered in Mexico City during the Second World War.
Lead by Raul Garcia Vidal and Taylor Cole to fund Junior Chamber
International, the initial members were composed of individuals from Costa
Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and
United States.
These young leaders embraced the exciting concept of an international
dimension for the movement that in the mid-1920s, under the empowering
direction of Henry Giessenbier, gained strength and popularity spreading
from Saint Louis, Missouri to the rest of the world.
Sixty years of leadership 60 years of change and learning. 60 years
of contribution and service 60 years of achievements."
Again the USJCI Senate asks you to send in
your Presidential Raffle tickets. These are the foundation for the Senate
budget and the Senate was damaged when it had to cancel the LA BOD
meeting.
We are all looking forward to the San
Antonio, TX BOD meeting in Jan. 05, CA, the Feb "Hawaii Senate/Old Timers
Pro Bowl" event in Feb., and the CA "Crab Feed" in March.
Our year is moving along very fast, and I
hope all of you are really enjoying the friendships, hospitality, making
new memories the cherish in the future.
"Cultivate Friendships," and
"HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU" for
Christmas and New Year!!
Sincerely
NVP John A Riggs #24081

October 2004
The Fall 2004 Senate BOD meeting hosted by LA was called
because of “Ivan the Terrible!” This was unfortunate because of our financial losses and Chairman Travis Boatwright and
his crew was doing a wonderful job arranging everything.
Mother Nature then spared New Orleans. Fifteen or so of Region X’s Senators and Jaycees got together with other
Senators and Jaycees from around the US and put on outstanding parties with LA. Talk about RTF!
In the sunny west, we have had rain storms and early snow in the Sierra Nevada. CA had a good sized earthquake too
boot. Joe A. promised that none of this was really following him around the US as some suspected.
The UT JCI Senate put on a great BBQ Golf weekend. Pres. Art Esenberg # 26704 welcomed Joe A. and me. UT twisted
our arms and made us play: We had no idea about scores but your NVP did win a prize for longest drive on the course
in St. George. Neither of us played on anything except miniature golf in the past. All there had a great time! I hope
that squirrel I his is better now. We hope many of you plan
on going to the 2nd Annual event next year. In Las Vegas the Region X meeting Chairman Marty Calabro
and I did another walk thru of the Palace Station Casino.
Lunch was great and the Catering Manager made a couple of changes for me and we are set. You can get the
registration form at the Region X web site. At our web site you can also download information on
Nevada Day weekend. Remember Charlie and Arlene Keller are planning a great weekend for all who attend. It is almost
here already! End of OCT!!!!
Our Region held it’s own in a couple of states on retaining members. We are only down -6 for the Quarter. Lets all
“Cultivate Friendships” and get those lost Senators back into the national Senate.
I have been in and out of AZ, CA, NV, UT and Mexico on trips this past quarter. I look forward to Nevada Day, AZ’s
Christmas Party, CA Long Beach meeting and Hawaii’s Senate/Old Timers Pro Bowl week in Feb. 05.
Region X RTF Chairman Chris Mumm was also recently in HI and as was
CA Pres.Vince Salinas, Jr. Let us keep our RTF in the Region at high speed and as the Western Cowfolks say
“Saddle Up!” for action! Or is that in CA and HI “Surfs Up!”

REGION X NEWS-October
Your Region has been very active with RTF this past quarter. AZ, CA, NV and HI have been running good programs for their local chapters with Senators lending a hand when asked. USJCC Pres. Lon Fox visited NV and AZ to see how local chapters were accomplishing their “Plans of Action for 2004”. He was hosted by the NV Senate when there with the local Jaycees. Region X Parliamentarian Rey S.
Faustino, Sr. #44855 (NV Sen. VP) worked very hard in conjunction with Past National JCI Senate President Larry Sheeler #16232 setting up the Las Vegas visit of the National President Sen. Lon Fox. Region X RTF Chairman Chris Mumm worked with them in Northern NV on this and is working with the states in our Region by phone and visits on RTF. Your December MENTORS will tell of some surprises.
RTF REPORT for the Region:
“We are asking each state president to appoint a RTF Chairman for his state.
In addition we are asking each state president to identify each community having
a population greater than 100,000 and appoint a Metro RTF Chairman for that
community.
Each RTF Chairman should contact their State Jaycee President and offer our
assistance in recruiting training, new chapter extension training, and
individual development training at state and regional meetings.
Our one goal this year is to have each and every Senator sponsor 1 new member
into a Jaycee Chapter. This would grow our organization by thousands. If you are
a Senator in an Executive Position in a large company consider having the
company sponsor its own Jaycee Chapter - total cost less than $500.00. For
information email me"
The LA BOD meeting was called off because of “Ivan the Terrible.” The Executive
conducted business by conference call later and it was also decided not to try
to make up the missed meeting. Our next meeting will be in Texas. We would like
to thank the LA committee for the hard work and the great program they had
planned.
Raffle: We really need another outstanding raffle this year. Not having a Fall
BOD meeting could really play havoc with the finances. Lost revenues from our
product sales, raffle sales meeting income, insurance etc. Please promote the
individual mailings that were sent out and do the old pull out $5 raffles at the
meetings if you can. We really need the raffle now more than ever.
Your NVP, accompanied by Pres. Joe A. and Ambassador to Mexico attended the
Mexican JC/Senate Area meeting in Baja. We were well represented from AZ, CA and
NV and had a great time.
In September Pres. Joe A. and me went to the UT JCI Senate Old Timers Golf
outing and BBQ in St. George. After, I made final arrangements in Las Vegas for
our Region X meeting at the Palace Station Hotel. See our web site for
Registration information.
Our Web Master Lowell Vahl has done a wonderful job with the web site and
included stories and many great pictures. Web Site: www.region-x-jci-senate.org

August 2004
The 1st International visit for Region X occurred recently when a group of Senators went to the Area 1 meeting of the Mexico JCI Senate in
Ensenada, Mexico. Ambassador Art Shane and I drove thru AZ and CA, then down into Baja to meet Pres. Joe A., CA Pres Vince Salinas, Jr. #58891 and their group in
Ensenada. We all had a great weekend experience.
Now it is the middle of August and a lot more is about to happen in Region X. On August 20-22, 2004, the
AZJCC/JCI Senate meeting is in Prescott, AZ. This is the same weekend that the 2nd Quarter CA State meeting will be held in Millbrae, CA.
We roll from those meetings into Sept. and the USJCI Senate Fall BOD meeting in New Orleans, LA on Sept 17-19. Then the “1st Annual Utah JCI Senate Old Timers Golf Outing,” will be held September 24, 2004 in St. George, UT. Contact UT Pres. Art Esenberg at
aesenberg@hotmail.com or jci26704@comcast.net.
The Region X RTF Chairperson Christopher E. Mumm has been working his “Plan of Action” and your Region Parliamentarian Rey S.
Faustino, Sr. has been designing a flyer on Parliamentary procedure for the Region.
My Regional Asst. Wendell Hosea #31227 in HI has been working hard helping Senators make contacts in HI for visits and Vacations. CA Pres. Vince can attest to this. I would also like to thank HI Pres. Wes Miyashiro for sending me the great “Pau Hana News.” COB Dennis
Ching, and past Region X VP Kathryn Chung have been great assets also.
The Nevada Annual birthday party for the state will happen Oct. 29-31, in Carson City, “Nevada Days.”
Our Region X “Foundation Fund Raiser” Susie Irvine will also be visiting the individual states soon to hold raffles and such to raise money for the Foundation.
